High-Energy Pelvic Injury: Age Matters
This week's article examines the impact of high-energy pelvic ring injuries in adults 75 years of age and older. Compared with younger patients with similar injury severity, older adults had significantly higher mortality and were less likely to receive intensive care or prolonged monitoring in specialized units. These findings reinforce the importance of early recognition of subtle deterioration, careful assessment of mobility and pain, close monitoring for complications, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration when caring for older orthopedic trauma patients. Drones were the solution! Click the link below to read more about this incredible, life-saving work in the Medscape article.
