How Well Do Teens Cope Following Major Trauma?

Like most qualitative reports, this study cohort was small. However, as a group, the adolescents interviewed were mostly faring well following return to daily life after sustaining moderate to severe injuries. Involvement in both school and social activities, as well as strong social relationships, proved to be important factors for successful rehabilitation.

  • Approximately 70% of the world's population experiences at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. 
  • Trauma is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for over 5 million deaths annually. 
  • Motor vehicle collisions are the leading cause of trauma deaths globally, followed by interpersonal violence, falls, and burns.
